Fire Retardant Compliance

Please see important information below regarding changes to the Large Yacht Code part A for fire retardant.

January 1st 2020 sees a significant change to The MCA Approval Procedures which provide equivalence to inherently fire retardant materials used on-board new build and existing vessels certificated under the Fire Safety section of the LARGE YACHT CODE part A. This new MGN 580(M) will replace the old MGN 453(M) on the 1st January 2020.

Under the requirements of the Large Commercial Yacht Code, for vessels of less than 500GT, unless the space is fitted with sprinklers or equivalent approved fixed fire extinguishing systems, upholstery and suspended textiles are required to be inherently fire retardant by complying with the relevant parts of the IMO Fire Test Procedures Code (FTP Code 2010).
